Why we built it
Your finances are nobody else's business. We built Forbidden Finance because the market norm is a budgeting app that treats your transaction data as the product, and we think that's backwards.
Forbidden Finance is subscription-funded personal finance software. We make money when you pay us for software, and at no other point. Nothing is sold on the side, "anonymized" or otherwise.
What we believe
Privacy is the foundation
Your data is encrypted with keys unique to your account, so even a stolen copy of our database would not reveal it. Row-level security at the database layer, passkey sign-in, AES-256-GCM throughout. These aren't premium features; they're the foundation. Every user gets them, including Free tier.
One size fits nobody
Eight budget methods because there's no universal system. Some people thrive with envelopes. Others need zero-based. We give you the tools and get out of the way.
The complete picture
A budget that ignores investments hides half your financial picture. We track spending, assets, liabilities, and net worth because partial data leads to bad decisions.
Honest pricing
Free tier is free forever, and paid tiers post their limits publicly. No "enterprise pricing" that means "we'll charge whatever we think you'll pay."

Forbidden Finance is built on proven technology: Go microservices, PostgreSQL with row-level security, Flutter for cross-platform mobile and web. We chose boring, reliable tools over flashy frameworks because your financial data deserves reliability, not hype cycles.
Self-hosted authentication via ZITADEL. Bank connections via regulated aggregation partners, never handled by us directly.
