About Forbidden Finance

Our Mission

Your finances are nobody else's business. Not your bank's. Not an advertiser's. Not a data broker's. We built Forbidden Finance because every budgeting app on the market treats your transaction data as the product. We think that's backwards.

Forbidden Finance is a subscription-funded personal finance platform. We make money when you pay us for software. That's the whole model. No data sales, no "anonymized" analytics packages sold to hedge funds.

What We Believe

Privacy Is Non-Negotiable

Row-level security at the database layer. Passkey authentication. AES-256-GCM encryption for sensitive credentials. These aren't premium features — they're the foundation. Every user gets them, including Free tier.

One Size Fits Nobody

Eight budget methods because there's no universal system. Some people thrive with envelopes. Others need zero-based. We give you the tools and get out of the way.

The Complete Picture

Budgeting apps that ignore investments are lying to you about your financial health. We track spending, assets, liabilities, and net worth because partial data leads to bad decisions.

Honest Pricing

Free tier is free forever. Paid tiers have clear limits posted publicly. No bait-and-switch. No "enterprise pricing" that means "we'll charge whatever we think you'll pay."

Why "Forbidden"?

In HTTP, a 403 status code means "Forbidden" — access denied. It's what you see when you try to access something that isn't yours. We think your financial data should return 403 to everyone except you. Your bank balance is forbidden territory. Your spending habits are forbidden territory. Your net worth is forbidden territory.

We named the company after the principle that guides every decision we make: your data is off-limits.

Built to Last

Forbidden Finance is built on open-source infrastructure: Go microservices, PostgreSQL with row-level security, Flutter for cross-platform mobile and web. We chose boring, proven technology over flashy frameworks because your financial data deserves reliability, not hype cycles.

Self-hosted authentication via ZITADEL. Bank connections via Plaid. No tracking inside the financial app — analytics stay on the marketing site, with your consent. The architecture reflects the mission.
